Is this plan for finishing new red oak stair treads OK?

We'll be finishing our new red oak treads, and we want to use a water-based sealer for the majority of the work because of fumes. However, I read that red oak can have an issue with raised grain with water-based sealers, and I'd like to get a little bit of warm color on the wood.

So my plan is to use a coat of de-waxed shellac (Zinsser's SealCoat), followed by 3 coats of Bona Mega Satin.

I had planned to use Bona DriFast sealer, but the only store in my area that carries Bona products sells it in the gallon size, and I can easily get the Zinsser in a quart. I would also prefer to use two coats of glossy followed by one of satin, but I don't want to have to buy 2 whole gallons of finish for only 15 stairs.

We are thinking since the stairs will be used only by two adults, mostly wearing slippers or socks, since we rarely wear shoes indoors, that Bona Traffic isn't necessary.

How does this sound? I'd be gratfeul for any advice about any part of this. Thanks!

We use bona mega all the time and it is fine for steps if you are concerned about wear just add an additional coat, make sure you lightly sand any sealer before applying water based finish. You also might want to consider using two coats of sealer because sometimes when lightly sanding a little to much of the sealer is removed and the bona mega will not give it the same color as the oil sealer does.
