painted oak floor help

Equipment rental stores have hardwood refinishing tools, floor sanders, edge sanders etc that will cut the existing coats of paint and polyurethane off to get it down to bare wood again.... But,

There is a learning curve on using this equipment and one has to be very careful, once the wood is cut too deep or sanded in the wrong direction, no way to undo it...

Hardwood floors are tongue and grooved meaning they will only allow so many sandings before the groove is so thin, the floor planks will start cracking at the joints....

One really doesnt know how many sandings the floors may have had so a test should be done or maybe a floor register could be pulled up to see how thick the grooves are ...

A pro hardwood floor sander company is the best bet but not cheap. I dont know your budget or what your expectations are for the floor to look like, just what I know about hardwood that may help...

Good luck
