OSB or plywood? Glue or no glue?
Tomorrow I am starting my LR flooring project. Floor has to come out clear down to the foundation unfortunately. We have already purchased peel and stick tile that looks like wood to put down in the room. (This is an old cabin so not looking for fancy). I have 2 questions....
1. Do I use OSB or plywood and at what thicknesses? 2. The tile is peel and stick but should I add some sort of "glue" on the floor to help them stick better? If so please tell me exactly what that "glue" would be called ![]() Thanks so much! Marilyn |

OSB or plywood? Glue or no glue?
I bet the manufacturer of the 'tiles' has some instructions or specs that would help....

OSB or plywood? Glue or no glue?
What ever you use, OSB or ply you need to put luan or a sanded ply down and fill the nail/staples and seams. You can use a product called Thin Spread to glue the peel and stick tile. Make sure and use the right size trowel and read the directions. After the glue is set starting with one corner and work the tile flush with the tile next to it. With the 2 glues it is very hard to move the tile once they are in place.

Do not just start in a corner. You could end up with a piece on the other wall an inch wide. You measure the width and split the difference. You need to chalk line a square line so you can stay straight.

OSB or plywood? Glue or no glue?
A bit of explanation of the flooring issue....
Originally the cabin was just two rooms. At the area where someone added onto it years ago there doesn't seem to be proper support. The floor in the old part and the newer part both seem sturdy but where the two areas meet the floor is low, soft, and if I bounced hard enough I am pretty sure I'd fall through and I'm not a big woman. It doesn't feel rotten it just feels like it's not supported properly. From the highest point to the lowest (new area versus old) there is a difference of 1 3/4 inches over an area 6 ft long and about 2 feet wide. The older portion is OSB and the newer is plywood. Where the OSB is I can see that there are several layers of it. It honestly feels like possibly the OSB and plywood may be butted up against one another but not attached to anything underneath. Guess I will find out the real issue tomorrow when I open up the floor. Thanks for the suggestions thus far. |

OSB or plywood? Glue or no glue?
I just realized I could attach a link to photos. I hope I am doing this right. Here is the floor in question loaded into a Webshots album.

And I should have mentioned that the white area you see in the photo is spray foam that I used to fill the gap between the two levels of flooring.
