Default Orbital vs. Belt sander for hardwood??

Has anybody used both?
What are advantages/disadvantages?
I'm leaning towards orbital buffer/sander because it seems like it would work quicker.
Also.. about how much sq footage can I expect from each pad?
any advise is appreciated!
