1) New hardwood flooring to be installed in family room/kitchen/hallway. Currently have sheet vinyl. Installer said it would be fine to install directly over the sheet vinyl. He also said there would be no need for additional vapor barrier due to the vinyl acting as barrier. Would you agree?
2) Hardwood is Natural Hickory 3/4" thick x 2 1/4 width with random lengths for an interesting look - more rustic. There are a few areas in kitchen where the sheet vinyl has pulled way from the shoe mold (free floating I guess you call it). Kind of curled somewhat along the shoe mold. Installer said it would be no problem to work that out and install over the vinyl. Your thoughts?
3) I would prefer to have 5" (higher) baseboard rather than the standard we now have. Hardwood will make the current baseboard look even shorter. Do I get the new baseboard installed prior to or after installation of hardwood flooring? Realize the shoe mold would be installed after hardwood - just not sure on new baseboard!
Installer comes highly recommended and I have seen some of his work on Tour of Homes - looks great. Any suggestions or comments are appreciated. THANKS!!
