I am completing new oak entry stairs that have been finished with 4 coats of satin floor polyurethane. I was wondering if there is product I can use on this surface to make the tread more slip-resistant? Not interested in traction strips or other such products, but rather something that can be applied (and re-applied when needed) to increase the friction without changing the look of the oak. I'm only really worried about the occasional grandchild who races down the stairs in stocking feet.
You can tape off the area of each tread that you want to be non-skid and reapply another coat of poly and add some non-skid paint additive. Do a Google search and you will find many different products. Here is one such link: http://www.duckworksbbs.com/supplies...skid/index.htm
