non-locking locking flooring

OK, so I'm installing laminate flooring in my kitchen, and in several places the stuff refuses to snap together. I have a pull bar but i don't want to beat on it too hard for obvious reasons. Is there a trick to this, and if so, would someone please tel me what it is? Thanks
