Noise Abatement Underlay

I live in an apartment that unfortunately has the typical problem of being able to hear every single footstep from the neighbors upstairs. I recently found out that these neighbors are going to be moving and they are going to renovate the entire apartment. I was going to ask them if they could lay an overlay in between the subflooring and the new hardwood and carpet to help alleviate the foot traffic noise. I was wondering if anyone has used any good noise abatement products to great success? I found the simplesolutions underlays on Home Depot, and wondered if anyone has used those and what they would rate them? Or if there is another product out there that gets the job done.

Thanks!

Noise Abatement Underlay

I'd use cork sheeting underlayment. But that is an expense they probably aren't willing to put into the place. Any sound reduction underlayment may be additional cost they don't want. Keep that in mind before you ask. It is their money you are asking them to spend o a place they aren't even going to be living in.

Noise Abatement Underlay

thanks poppameth,

yeah, i think cork is way too expensive, but i'm actually willing to put up the money myself if it means saving a little bit of sanity. the simplesolutions soundbloc foam is fairly inexpensive and i was hoping to get someone that has used it or something similiar to chime in and see if it is actually worth me putting money into it, or if I just have to grin and bear it.
