New Hardwood Floors
Hello,
I recently went through a major renovation in my house. The newly installed red oak select hardwood (unfinished) started showing cracks after we turned on the heat in the house (the house is located in North East). The installer came back and sealed all cracks, buffed the floors and applied an extra layer of coat, however after only a week the cracks are appearing again. I realize that the hardwood is contracting due to air being dry, however I was not expecting these to appear so soon. Does anyone have any idea how to deal with this issue? Thanks, Arthur |

How long did the wood sit in the house before it was installed to have time to adjust to that house? If you bring wood that was sitting in a cold warehouse into a house and install it the same day it will shrink alot. If you allow it time to get to the same temp and humidity as the house it should shrink at the same rate as the house. Different manufacturers specify different amount of time that their product should sit in the house before installing it.
