New Flooring With 2 Large Dogs

Good Morning,

My wife and I are about to start a remodel of the 1st floor and all the flooring will be replaced with a wood or wood like product. I am looking for which kind will be the most durable; we have two large dogs, and two small kids. It will be installed on a concrete slab. Thanks for any suggestions.

No form of real wood is going to stay scratch free with dogs and kids running around.
May want to concider tile for the kitchen and bathrooms and below grade rated laminite for the main areas.
You would have to lay a vaper barrier and glue the seams since your going over a slab.

I can vouch for that. I used to be uptight about the floor getting scratched, but as they say life is too short and a kid has to be a kid without getting nagged . Toys get dropped, mud gets tracked in, ect.

Laminate will hold up better but it comes with a certain cheese factor

Real wood can be refinished when this stage of your life passes and you will be left with a better resale feature.
Now I just let everybody live their lives and trash my floor in the process....Who cares...it doesn't really matter in the end

If you do just have to have real wood go with engineered wood flooring.
It can beinstalled over a slab with a vaper barrier, can be refinshed, Has a real wood top layer. Most have 7 layers of really tough sealer on the surface, far more then anyone would apply on site.

Maybe consider acid staining the concrete. It is becoming pretty popular, it is cheaper than any other flooring option and is more durable than anything.
