Need ideas for Entrance Hallway with Stairs SEE PIC

The project is underway and here's the rundown...
Im fixing up the entrance hallway(see pic).Top landing is 5.5' X 4' and lower is 3' X 4. Stairs are 4' wide. Old floor was 3 layers of linoleum plus some 1/4" subfloor on landings which I pulled. T&G planks are left. Joists are 16" OC , solid and level. Stair treads and risers will be coming out soon. I have complete access under both landings and staris.

This is the main entrance to house with lots of traffic. Everything gets tracked in here...snow, salt, mud, dirt etc...typical for Buffalo NY

I am aweful with coordinating materials and colors so all ideas are welcomed. I'm leaning towards good quality slip resistant tiles for the landings and risers and wood treads. I'm thinking of going with oak treads and some kind of beige or gray textured tile along with Shultler stair nosing for the top step. I'm not sure what to do with the stair skirts. I believe they are maple but the finish looks bad. I thought about keeping them and painting white to match the doors' casing. I'd really like this hallway to look good and be duable as well as safe so I plan on using good quality stuff. Someone suggested carpet runners on the new treads but it seems like I'd be mixing to many things. i don't want it to look like it was just thrown together.Like I said, I stink at coordinating so someone please help with this part!

I'll be pulling the T&G on the landings out and replacing with 3/4" plywood. What kind? Planning on using Ditra.
After that I'll yank out the treads and risers and begin that chore.
Thanks in advance for any and all ideas!

I decided to go with granite tiles for my main entrance.

Will that hold up better than porcelin? does it get slippery when wet?
Also, because this is a small area, should I stay away from 12" X 12" s of what ever I plan on and go with something smaller?

It will probably a little slippery when wet but I would still want something that is scratch proof and also presenting a luxurious look for the entrance.

I would go with bigger tiles with less grout for the floor whenever I can.

There are granite look-alikes made of porcelain, that would be a better choice in my opinion.
