Need help with tile.

I am building an outdoor table, and want to tile the countertop of it like these(probably more like the second one:

I will probably use a granite tile, but my question is, what sort of grout should i use, to prevent any cracking, etc? Would it be best to have the smallest grout line possible?(like maybe butt the tiles together)?

Any other tips, or ideas would be appreciated.

too small grout joints will crack more. make the joint the same size as the thickness of the tiles. Cracking is from the substrate moving and /or improper contact (less than 90%) when adhering the tile Epoxy grout will hold up better but not very user-friendly.

Thanks.

Should i caulk around the edges of the tile where it meets the wood?(over the grout)

If so what type of caulk would be preferred?

polyurethane or elastomastic caulking for your project. you can get colored caulking to match the grout at a tile store. Caulk along the wood edge and and change in plain. Corners and horizontal to vertical joints
