Nailing bamboo over parquet flooring

I jus bought solid bamboo flooring and I want to nail it over the existing parquet. My parquet is in good shape, no pieces coming up but I'm worried if I nail to it, it will listen up or even over time whatever glue is under it will deteriorate. If I get a long enough nail that goes through the parquet and into the ply would that cut it?

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thanks.

Any flooring is only as good as what is under it.

Fair enough, but is parquet flooring good enough to be under it is my question. The floor is solid so the plywood below the parquet is good.

It could be done--but it's a chancy install----If the parquet is old enough to need replacing--the glue holding it down is probably old and brittle---driving flooring spikes into that on an angle might be all it takes to knock some loose.

If you are willing it risk failure in order to save the time involved in removing the old parquet--It's your house .---Mike---

Nailing bamboo over parquet flooring

I picked a spot where I'm going to pull the parquet up anyway to install tile to do some testing. I drove a framing nail into it and it didn't split or come loose. I managed to get a chunk free in a corner after pulling the trim off. I didn't realize it's only 1/4" thick. If I use a 2 1/2" nail Ive got a good hold into the floor. Over time though things might get noisy as the parquet glue deteriorates.

Really, I don't mind pulling up the parquet, but I need to have the hight in order to match the kitchen and bathroom tiles so what I'm trying to avoid is buying a bunch of plywood and installing it first.

Isn't the parquet oak? Might be a challenge using a pin that long.
