Most effective way to remove cut back?

Hello Everyone,

You may have read my other post that I am going to tile my concrete basement floor.

The previous owner had vinyl tiles and a black adhesive stuff I think people have called cut back.

The stuff looks like it is warn down pretty well but I am concerned about the new tiles sticking.

Is there a special adhesive I can use with the new ceramic tiles or do I need to use something to remove the cut back? Should I rent a concrete floor grinder and smooth it down that way?

What do you all recommend.

Thanks,

Stephen

You can scrape the cutback, but I wouldn't grind it. It has asbestos in it.

Mepi and Latacrete make thinsets that will go over that nasty stuff..
Call a real tile store or check out JOHNBRIDGE tile forum.
