Mixing Hardwood, Carpet, and Laminate! - DIY Chatroom

Hi,

We live in a 1100 square foot duplex with 3 dogs and 3 cats! We have having some problems with our flooring! When we moved in there was already oak hardwood on the 1st floor, and carpet everywhere else. Since we have installed laminate, but not hardwood before, we decided to use a laminate in the master bedroom. We have carpet in the loft, the guest bedroom, the hallway, and the stairs. I have heard that laminate and hardwood are both difficult and noisy as far as the stairs go, but I don't want to deal with carpet in the loft with the animals. We were thinking of using laminate in the loft, but leaving the carpet on the stairs the hallway, and the guest bedroom....would this look "off". Here are pics of the layout:

We plan on using the same laminate as the bedroom. This would be the cutoff point:

i think it would look ok as long as you put a laminate to carpet strip

If the corner of the wall is not the same distance as the board at the bottom of the railing then it might look a little funny being offset so I would either go with my pic but you could also cut the carpet off at the top of the riser and put a transition piece here that overlaps the carpet( second pic).

also keep in mind that you are keeping carpet in the highest use points in the home. the hall and stairs.
you will be replacing more often.

but the layout seems fine.
