Mixing different types of hardwood flooring

We have hand scraped hardwood floors in our entry way, kitchen, and dining room. We currently have carpet in living room and bedrooms. We want to replace the flooring in the living room and master bedroom. Both areas butt up to the existing hardwood floors. Would it look awful to put a less expensive hardwood floor down? I would really love more of the hand scraped but cannot afford that right now. My husband wants to use a laminate but I am hesitant to use laminate and would rather use a less expensive hardwood floor. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I'd go buy a box of engineered hardwood and lay it out on the floor without nailing it down see what you think.
I'd never want to see laminite next to real wood, it already look like cheap plastic that would me it look even cheaper and low the value of the house.

Ever see a realitors ad in the paper saying laminite flooring through out? But there's lots of them that brag about having hardwood.

Thanks! That does make a lot of sense and I think that is what we will do.

consider the heights of the floorings, tho you'll probably need transition strips to the rooms anyway
