Mix plank and tiles in laminate floors.
When the time comes to do my living room, I like to find a system that I can do patterns like this -- no, no not THESE specific patterns, but a tile and plank system that has multiple sizes that can work together like this. Is this possible?
The first and second pattern requires planks that have a length of 2T+W, where T is the tile size, and W is the plank width. The third one requires 'domino' tiles -- ones that are twice as long as wide, although it could be done with plain squares.
If your not married to the idea of laminate, Karndean makes a strip plank vinyl floor that you can integrate with their tiles to make similar patterns.
While I'm not wedded to laminate, I really don't like the life cycle costs of vinyl -- a plastic that is poisonous to make, poisonous to burn or throw away and almost impossible to recycle. The dining room was a matter of expediancy: My wife wanted it done before guests came. It was some form of vinyl or ceramic (The dining room is also the plant room, so the floor gets wet.) The subfloor wasn't suitable as is for ceramic, and both time and money were in short supply. Now I have two years to find an alternative.
I did look at their website. Impressive. But I refuse to fill out a 30 line form to find a local dealer.
