Matching stones (style/design)

I am wondering if it is "better" to have the same stone (travertine) on every surface in the bathroom that will have stone. Aside from borders and accents, will it look acceptable to have vareigated/assorted 4x4 marble tile on the shower floor, or should I instead put in 4x4 travertine and let the accents take over. I often get a hold of used material such as the marble and would like to use it, but not to the detriment of acceptable design.
