Default On The Market For Laminate

Hey guys I am about to lay new floors in the livingroom. We want to go with laminate flooring. We have 3 young kids so we thought it would be our best bet as far as durability.

After looking into the differnt laminates for some time now I don't understand why there is so many differnt thickness of laminate. What MM would be best? 8MM, 9.5MM, or 12MM ?

I also don't know the difference from floating to the click and lock. Aren't they all floating? And what is a Vinyl Resilient compared to just laminate?

Thanx
