i have installed many brands of floating floor, we cured the cracking and creaking on one installation by (soft) brooming talcum powder over the floor and allowing it to work into the joints before removing the excess that job was over 2 years ago and the customer has had no more issues. providing your sub floor was within the tollerances for that brand of flooring this could be a cheap fix

Thanks, but that was ruled out, mainly because we were told that the talcum could cake up, and in the black "lines" of the floor, it would look awful. It would also void any warranty, because they could say it wasn't within the proper care, like now, when it says in the care of the floor, you must use that Bruce floor cleaner, so cleaner and water...every little thing will get ya', so you have to be very very careful.

I was told by a contractor that if you apply patch or self leveling compound to a surface like vinyl you will have the problem you are describing. The patch compound will not adhere and will start to crack where it is feathered. He suggested that the vinyl be coated with a special primer and then use the self leveling or patch compound.

I am having the same popping/cracking sound with my Armstrong Bruce Park Avenue floor. So far I feel that I am getting the runaround by Home Depot and Armstrong. Has anyone had this issue resolved? Is there a class action suit on this issue?
