Levelling floor

floor leveling

I live in an old Victorian home in which the old cold pantry was opened up several years ago to become part of the kitchen. It is not on the foundation that the rest of the house is and is sloping down probably 3 or 4 inches. Understandably there were several cracks in the drywall that I have since patched. At some point I am planning on crawling under the back porch to try to brace things to prevent any further sag. (footers, posts etc). I'm not looking to jack up the floor/walls considering all the patching I've done to the drywall since I know jacking it would cause it to crack all over again. Since I am going to be putting down some new linoleum in the kitchen, I just want to level it out after bracing it. I am in hopes of just leveling the part of the floor that has dropped so that it matches the rest of the kitchen which is over the foundation and level. Any suggestions on the best way to do that? Firring strips etc???

Depending on your situation this may be the easist. I am not counting out shims or other means, just a sugestion:D
