leveling a floor

HI there,

I have noticed that my floor is sloping, is it possible to level it easily or is it an expensive job?

cheers

Darren

Darren, we may need a little more information to make a determination. What type of floor are we talking about? Is the floor a concrete slab? Maybe a floor supported by joists or i-beams? How much slope to you have in terms of inches? These are all things that will help everyone here figure out how to help.

how big is the room?
how much slope?

Possible to level..yes

Easily.. all depends

Expensive..maybe

Seriously, anyone will need more info to answer this. Slab or wood frame? reasonable access to crawl space if wood frame?just one room or through several rooms?if one room, will the newly leveled floor create a problem with elevation where it meets the old again?would it be easier to remove wood sub-floor and sister or cut wedges for existing sagging joists than to jack level? is the problem caused by undersized/overspanned floor joists which is pretty common in older houses? is the problem bad/obvious enough to justify the costs or is it just a pet peeve because you know it exists? etc, etc.

Put a marble on it is it moving fast or slow in a certain dirrection? If its moving slow it can be leveled with the goo of your choice. If its moving fast i would see what is going on underneath.

Are you concerned with the floor being level or flat? - There is a difference. A floor can be flat but not level.

Most floor installation specs refer to the floor being flat (variation from a stright line) and do permit some degree of not being level (a marble is allowed to roll).
