leveling cement basement floor for tiling?

I have installed a Bathroom/Laundry room in basement, but did not realize the cement floor is very un-level from exterior wall to main drain in room, it is out of level by 1 inch in a six foot span, the area were i installed tub was level. i want to tile floor with ceramic.
Is there an easy way to level floor (cement is painted and flaking in some areas do i have to remove all paint first). The tub is already installed, can i level cement up side of steel tub about 1 inch. or can i thicken mortor for tile installation.
thinking ahead is not my strong suite (dammitt)

Tub shower surround is already tiled so removing tub is not an option.

yeah, you have to get at least most of the paint up. for that small of an area, i would use thin set to level it up, don't do it in one shot. do it in layers.

Once again, the paint needs to be removed---I would use self leveling compound---thin set shrinks as it sets---using it for leveling is a tough job---could be done, I suppose. but not the best way.

i have used self leveling. perhaps i was doing it wrong, but the stuff, to me, is not all its cracked up to be.

that is why its is done in layers. at least a day before each layer. no more than about 1/4" each layer.

One hour is the set time for Jifset---Perhaps you used a different product----I can pour and set in a short time---

Any self leveling compound that I have used is a chemical set ---usually 20 minute---
