Question

Laminate wood flooring brands

I know nathan has a sticky post up about folks here arguing about brands...so I hope this post will not spark any fighting .

We're going to get new flooring, the laminate wood planks...I will get this from Home Depot because we'll have them install it (we farm and don't have time or energy for a DIY job...plus, this will be our last major floor in the house )...
so, HD has several brands, and I've read customer reviews and will look for consumer reviews on the brands I am interested in...but it would be a huge help to get some opinions from folks here that might have used some of these brands in their homes...

Pergo (love their Hawaiian Kurly Koa)
Home Legends
Dupont
Faus

If anyone has experience with any of these brands...opinions please...how they wear is my main concern.

Thanks a ton!!

Its not always the brand but mm grade and how it's installed. You will have best results with a 10 or 12mm grade will feel more real when walking on it. Pergo is not bad I haven't installed the other brand.

What grade were you planing to go with?

http://www.laminate-flooring-install...g-reviews.html

Laminites are rated with an AC rating, 1 is the worst, 5 being the best.
If there is no rating on the box or at least on the company web site for that type flooring that could very well mean it did not even pass the test it has to go through.

jetswet & joecaption....thank you. I appreciate that link, especially with the Pergo review, I had read in several places this brand may not be as good as their reputation...so I have pretty much crossed Pergo off my list, although reviews for the Pergo Select are good.
Same for HD Home Legends brand...I wish he had reviewed Dupont & Faus...HD has some flooring of those brands I really like, especially the Faus flooring.

I also read about the rating system, and would not get any flooring below a AC3...we do have dogs, so this floor is going to take a beating over the years!
I also read up on the other rating...DPL vs HPL, and know I must go with the HPL rating.

I also have eliminated any flooring under the 8mm, and will try finding what I like in the 10mm-12mm range.

As for installation...this is no DIY project...there is about 450sq ft to cover, in an 'L' shape, so even if we had the time and energy, I would still hire this out...we farm, so we wouldn't have time until Nov., and I don't want to wait that long...I have several other DIY projects to do before the flooring goes in, and would like to get them done now while I can keep windows open...projects I can do myself while hubby works.

We live in a rural area of WY., and after calling some of the local flooring places, found them way over priced in both the flooring and installation...not their fault, small businesses trying to make a buck... HD & Lowes are in Billings, MT, which is about 90 miles from us...HD charges less for the per mile extra charge to come down here than Lowes, so I am buying the flooring at HD and having them install.

I now hope some folks here might be familiar with the Dupont and Faus flooring...and post their opinions.

Thans so much!

Not going to find a lot of people on here reaving about having flooring installed by a box store.
Here's some reasons.
Box stores do not have people on the payroll that do installs on any of there projects. There all sub contractors.
What often happens is one crew comes out to install it, if there's a screw up it more then likly your not the only job they messed up so there not going to be used again, so your stuck having to deal with a totaly differant company that has little to gain by fixing someone elses screw ups.
A real flooring company has real full time employees and a vested intrest in making sure your complety satisfied.
Anyone know if someone does a bad job your going to tell at least 10 people, if someone does a good job you might tell two people in most cases even then only if your asked. Point is if you complain about an install your going to balme HD or Lowes not the company that did it. So a real flooring company has a lot more to loose.
There's a web site called Pis* off consumer, check it out. just replace the * for an s. It no Angies list, I like how when people post on there for the most part they list all the steps they have gone through to try and resolve issues not just put down a product.
You have to register but it's free.

Joes right you don't want to go with the grey area of having box stores installing flooring. Laminate can be pulled off DIY if your handy and have done your homework on how to install. Other then that a reputable floor co. Will suite good for you.

I have read reviews about the HD intsallers and have not seen anything negative yet...but, your post does give me pause. Maybe I can get with one of the local flooring businesses and see if they won't do a deal to get my business...give me a price on installation that will compare with HD. I'll look into it.

I have stated that we have no time or energy to do this floor ourselves...I don't want to wait until at least Nov. when we're done farming...and after 8 months of farming hell...I know my husband won't want to do any major projects for a couple of weeks.

I have heard alot of sub contractors getting stiffed and left high and dry because there is a issue with the product it's self and HD will blame the contractor.

What product...a certain brand or just in general...I am looking into the HD installation issue and calling local flooring businesses in my area...there aren't many...we are very rural here.
Thanks for the heads up
