laminate wood around floor register

Ok, we bought laminate flooring for our living room and right away I can see that the concrete around the first floor vent I come to is sloped slightly up to the vent. It's not just concrete, but the duct metal too which I could take snips and trim down.

Any ideas what to do to level this off so my flooring will lay flat?
