Laminate underlay

I will be installing about 1600 sq ft of 12mm laminate flooring. (Would prefer wood, but have ‘big dog’ and $ issues.)

Looking for a moderately priced underlayment, I’ve been considering the Roberts Harmony foam or MP Global “Quiet Walk” felt. This is ground floor/slab so I’m not concerned about noise being transmitted through the floor; I just want the most “wood like” sounding, quiet floor. Like everyone, I hate the hollow clacking sound of inexpensive laminate.

Which of the two choices can anyone recommend? They’re about the same price on Amazon; pretty reasonable. Or should I look at something else? Budget is definitely a factor, can’t really afford something more expensive, like cork.

Thanks…
Gary

Laminate underlay

ON a slab I'd very concerd with moisture.
You going to need a pad with a vaper barrier and have to glue all the seams.
Also would be best to use below grade rated laminite
Why would you buy the pad on Amazon? Any Lowes or HD has it in stock.

Laminate underlay

Joe...

Thanks for the reply.

Regarding HD; I'm just another DIY'er and I buy lots of stuff there. I think they're great for things like lawnmowers, painting supplies (except for the actual paint), and certain electrical supplies, and other DIY stuff. But some things, things the average homeowner isn't going to shop around for, seem to be priced to make up for the low margin on that stuff. Like hardware; when buying a pack of 8 screws price doesn't matter much to me. But for a box of 50 or 100 the price is almost double what I can get them for elsewhere.

Sorry, got a little carried away here

Anyway, the Roberts underlay is .46 per sq. ft. at HD (and that's only if you special order the 630' roll). The 100' rolls that they actually have in the store are .60 sq. ft. On Amazon it's .30 with free shipping.

And for me at least, money is tight these days
