laminate thickness

Hello. After great difficulty and arguments, my mother and I finally agreed on a laminate floor by Quickstep. It is 8 mm thick, which we were told would be sufficient for residential purposes (we were told to get less than 12 mm by our contractor and we hated all the colors in the 10 mm).

When we brought the 8 mm plank home, my mother was furious after noticing that it was so thin. I measured it myself and it is 6 or 7 mm (barely). The sample in the store looked so thick....what's up with that?

Are all advertised 8 mm floors really 7 mm? Are the 12 mm really 11?

My mom wants to take it back but i dont want to go through the headache.

Thank for any input!
Sue

If it's advertised as 8mm thickness, then I would say that is what you should have received - return it, and find a laminate that meets your specified thickness.

...and the laminate thickness matters because ? ? ?

I would be more interested in the thickness of the wear-coating. If any!
