laminate on stairs

It should never be used on stairs, plain and simple.
Use Real wood treads instead.
There still laminated but in a different way.
There strips of real wood glued and pressed together. There done that way to reduce cupping.

Thanks Joe! So no engineered wood on stairs? The instructions seem misleading. You'd think they would be more forward about advising against it. Thanks again.

Engineered wood is different than laminate. It's usually veneered plywood of some kind. Much more stable than laminate flooring i wouldn't worry much about expansion with that
