My dining room in my 65 year old house has a pretty uneven floor (existing hardwood). Within a 5 foot space, there is a 3/4 inch difference. Seeing how laminate is not nailed down, is this room even a candidate for laminate? I've read of using shingles as shims, but with THAT much of a slope?
Not going to work.
In fact any type flooring other then carpet most likly will not work.
Why not take the time to address what the issues are with the subfloor or floor joist then any type flooring will work and look better?
You're probably right. Of course not the answer I was hoping for. But yeah, I'll most likely end up taking it down to the joists and shim or shore them up. This is in the corner of the room which is above the bottom of the basement stairs. In reality,..it could use a basement floor jack. But then I'm cranking the thing up a 1/4 inch every year or something silly.
