Laminate Flooring Question
I have a refinished attic space that has been turned into a master bedroom. It was obviously done during the late 70s or early 80's it has some beautiful wood panneling for walls. I plan on taking all of this down and putting up drywall. I am trying to make plans for the flooring and wondering how much should overestimate the sq footage. I am looking at buying at an auction or a discount builders supply so I don't want to come up short. I have never done laminate before, but have been remodeling my house since July.
Here are the measurements of the room. Any advice is welcomed.
Sitting room area 17' X 11.5'
Closet area 12' X 9'
Small Hall way (L shaped) 3' X 5' and 4' X 3'
Bedroom area 16' X 17'
I have tried to include all info let me know if any other info is needed. Im acutally going to an auction on saturday and if they have what Im looking for and enough of it I might go ahead and buy it.
By the measurements that you provided, I came out with exactly 602.5 Square feet.
The general rule is to add 20% to your flooring total to get a safe total on the materials required. (Tho, that is determined by the exact shapes of the areas to be installed. Alot of corners and irregularities will require extra flooring material)
Realize: allow for beginner mis-cuts & the fact that if you run a little short, you may not be able to just run down to the local flooring place and find a match...
Rule that we regularly use:
Make sure that you buy enough to "more than finish the job" when you start it ..... because if ....you do.... run out of your materials ... then, it will definitely cost you more to 'find' those....materials to finish it.
yeah. I always try to overestimate materials etc. I have a lowes and HD within 2 miles of my house, and it is easy to send the wife to pick stuff up while Im working, but I have to include really good descriptions. I wanted to make sure I have more than enough, since I am probably going to be buying something that will be very hard to get more of.
I might even add 25-30% just to be on the safe side.
30% on 600 feet better get you there :)
You will have tons extra but at least won't be short.
