Laminate flooring over carpet?
I'm remodeling a rental apartment and was planning to pull up the yucky carpet and put down Pergo and some cheaper similar laminate flooring. But checking it out today I found 3 layers of carpet, all flat commercial type, and the bottom layer seems to be glued to the floor. I think it was some kind of foam backed stuff. Pulling it up will likely be a terrible job. Anyone think I can just pull off the top two layers of carpet and lay the laminate on top of the old carpet?

Laminate flooring over carpet?
I've seen it done over a single layer of extremely short pile loop commercial. This was directly glued with no pad. It worked out well and has held up for several years. If there is a foam pad under it you are probably asking for trouble. Going over carpet period generally isn't recommended.

If its the short nap industrial type carpet you have you should be fine.
