Laminant flooring question

I have researched my flooring and they require an expansion joint after 21 feet. My room is 28' x 20' in an L-shape. I was originally going to run the planks parellel to the longest wall (28') thus I would need an expansion joint. As a result I wanted to run the planks the other way thus my longest run of planks would be 20' and not require and expansion joint. My question is, do I still need an expansion joint between the planks that are running vertical from the longest wall. I hope I explained that right...thanks
