karndean vinyl planks

I have ceramic tiles at the moment, some retailers suggest that a screed can be laid on top of the tiles and the vinyl then glued down.
other retailers have said this is a no no as Karndean will not guarantee their product as all the ceramic tiles must be take up, the floor diamond ground and then prepared with a floor leveller. the whole thing seems messy, is this really necessary?
