Hi, I am remodeling my kitchen which has sheet vinyl on it currently and I want to install 18x18 porcelain tile. I have been told to install 1/2plywood and then 1/4" hardibacker cement board over that as a sound foundation due to the size of the tile. Does this sound correct? Any suggestions on the best way to remove the old flooring?
I did tile floor in my kitchen which previously had vinyl. I used 16x16 tiles and aside from what was under the vinyl, typical plywood/osb subfloor, I put down ditra uncoupling membrane and then the tile.
