installing stair treads.
Just got done installing Bamboo flooring and am getting ready to do stairs. I ordered full treads and risers, and was wondering if you can just put the new treads and risers over the existing ones.

You will change a lot of things by doing this. IMO, R&R is the best way to go.

I'm getting ready to do something similar. I plan to order full stair treads for each step. Since my stairs are boxed in on both sides, the installation should be relatively simple. I'll start by cutting the nose off of each step with a reciprocating saw. Apply a lot of glue to each step and use a few nails to hold the tread in place while the glue dries. I'm planning on using 1/2" MDF for the risers because they'll be painted. I'll let you know how it goes.

Just a caution mpt1123, you will increase your first step and decrease your top step heights by the thickness of your new tread. I believe that the maximum rise variation cannot be more then 3/16".

I'm installing a 3/4" hardwood flooring stair nose to the top step - with hardwood throughout the hallway. That should solve the top step issue. Still thinking about the bottom step.
