Installing Quality Porceline Tile over Well installed plywood base
I have just removed a cermaic tile floor in my Kitchen. The tile was in great condition after 20 years. My intent was to Install Hardy backer and retile with a high quality porecline. When I removed the Cermaic tile floor, I found it was on a solid 3/4 Toung and grouve Subfloor with a 1/4 inch plywood backer very well glued to the subfloora. There was a metal mesh lathing stapled to the backer and what appears to be thin set over the mesh.
Removing the tile floor was a challenge, but the mesh actually helped, because we were able to get a prestine surface under the mesh. There is know way we can remove the backing 1/4" plywood as it is glued and holding well.
I want to go forward with an install of porceline tile over the origional surface. I know nothing about a metal lath layer.
Can I go forward with a Thin set over the existing subfloor and backing materal..
If I need to put down a mesh, what is it and how do I install
