Installing Laminate Flooring over Wood Laminate Floor
Can someone tell me if it is possible to install a laminate floor over a wood laminate floor that is on concrete? I was looking at Wilsonart floor installation guide and it says wood floors on concrete must be removed before installation.
|
I wonder how the wood floor is attached to the concrete, but I would agree to stick with manufacturer recommendations.
|
is it wood or laminate?
if the flooring down is a laminate and in good shape i don't see why you couldn't put the new one on top of it. especially if it is a floating floor. make sure there isn't a moisture problem.

Floating floors expand and contract.
plus they have some give to it. too much give to allow another floating floor on top of that one. It just isn't something that has been tested. but if you wanna test it out, then let us know how it goes. |
I have never done this either. I would drill a 1" hole with a hole saw in an inconpicuios area to determine what is there. If the original flooring has a vapor barrier, I would skip that on the floating floor. My thought is to not have the original flooring trapped between 2 vapor barriers. That could lead to rot.

I Agree with Teetorbilt. you dont wanna have any moisture between, then you get rott and mold witch could lead to health problems
|
Umm, cuz the manufacturor of the product says not to.

if the existing laminate is the snap together variety it wouldnt take an hour or so to pull it up. i planned to put the laminate i pulled out of my house in the basement but it turned out to be real pergo and all the pieces were glued together. the early laminate had to be glued instead of the snap lock they have nowadays
