Installing laminate flooring in basement, staples in floor

I had carpet in the basement and hated it. So I removed it and the layer they put under the carpet to make it couchy was stapled to the flooring.

Now all is remove except the staples in the flooring. I have tried but most are stapled right into the plywood and it nearly impossible to remove.

I have a foam to lay down on top before installing my laminate floor.

Is it ok to leave the staples there? There are so many it would take weeks to get everything off.

thanks!

if you lay quality foam... if after the foam laid, you can walk on it without feeling the staples... then you are good to go...

more importantly, select a good quality laminate... some cheap one out there are so difficult to install ....

It is not ok to leave the staples.

They will work through your underlayment ant to the bottom of your floating floor and can make unwanted noise as you walk over it.

Suck it up and remove all the staples. Its not that bad, I do it almost every day.

I agree. I removed Many thousands of them from my living room and dining room. Buy some good Klein pliers (they can grip much better than most other brands I have tried, and they don't break when you abuse them - not that I am advocating abusing your tools.) , they are very helpful for the ones that are really stuck.
