Installing hardwood in adjacent rooms

Hi. I'm just about to install hardwood strip flooring in adjacent rooms: dining and living rooms linked by French door.

However, the joists run in opposite directions in these rooms. Should I ignore this and just run the strips in the same direction in both rooms; or would it be OK to have them going one way in the living room and another way in the dining room (with a transition piece in the doorway)?

it's almost impossible to line the floor up from one room to the next. go with a transition in the doorway, and and run it perpendicular in the next room. depending on how many rooms (and doorways) you are doing, you may be forced to run them parallel anyway. don't lose sleep over it.

For structural purposes run them perpendicular to the floor joist , It will look good any way , I have done this type of thing in hospitals , They called it feng sheua , ??? Some designer said that any way ,
Other wise the boards [could] have a wavey look , You may not notice with a rough floor but when there's a gloss on it then it could show , secondly . If it is prefinish you will need different random lengths to do it at a 90% angle , If not you can cut the boards straight with a chop saw , Then file the micro bevel onto the end , And then Put a little stain on the edge .Then use an artist paint brush , Tape a straight edge to the cut edge and put a little finish on them once they are done
