Installing floor tile but don't want grout gap to turn black overtime
In the process of having new floor tile installed. We looked at porcelain tile and regular ceramic tile. Due to budget restraints I think that we are going with the least expensive (regular ceramic tile). We're tiling the whole house.

My question is the drawback with tile is that the grout always turns black overtime with the dirt. The porcelain that we saw today was one that would be installed as marble and therefore there would not be a wide grout line but again this is too expensive.

Any recommendations so that the grout area doesn't turn black with basic ceramic tile? We are getting light colored tile.

Too expensive? What price range are you looking at? How much do you need? Doing the work yourself?

There are stain free grouts available----Epoxy and Quartz lock---But the run about $1.00 per square foot

Pay now or live with stained grout---Mike---

You get what you pay for in a floor. I say this with a smile. Porcelain (or ceramic) as the tile and use an epoxy based grout. It is the same grout used around pools, it never has to be sealed and is somewhat immune to mold and mildew (the discolouration you mentioned). The drawback to using epoxy is that it is hard to work with and you have to be quick and accurate with the process. The advantage is the floor will never have to be sealed, resistant to spoore growth, waterproof, and extremely AwSome when heat is used along with the project.

two options: use a high quality penetrating sealer on the grout and maintain a rigorous cleaning/sealing schedule(NOT). or use an epoxy grout. Costs more up front but worth the money. color stays true for a long time and RESISTS molding, staining, yellowing.
