Installing Carpet over ceramic tiles - ?

We'd like to lay w/t/w carpet over the existing ceramic tile in our single story home. We'd like to preserve the tile for future owners, as it is attractive - just not our current desire.

I've heard of Chemrex tack strip adhesive (instead of Liquid Nail), which would minimize damage to tile. We have no base boards/wall/floor wood molding, so all tacking would be to glued tack strips.

Is this the best way to go about this? I've also heard that it might be a more labor-intensive job, as the installers would have to use manual kickers, as power kickers might damage the tile.

Why not use Kanga Back carpet and put it down with double-face tape? No damage and very little mess to clean.

you can put a light power stretch on it. you are on top of the pad not the tile. or like rusty said look at kanga back carpet. i would not be affraid of a power stretcher though. good luck.

I would be more afraid of doing damage with a knee kicker than a power stretcher. I have never tried to glue tack strip to ceramic. We always nailed it in the grout.

that for sure rusty. a knee kicker is for closets only. i have glued stip to ceramic several times. we do alot comercial jobs where they want to save the tile, never had trouble with chemrex and powerstretcher.

Is PAM the hot glue gun process?

RE power vs. knee, I guess the installer will tell me if he's comfortable with it.. I believe we're going with 1/2" 8lb pad, pretty hefty, so maybe a PK will be ok.

Yes, brads into grout would be better than into tile....we can adjust our seams to align w/ grout lines.

I'm just getting back into the selection process, after the holiday break and some other pressing issues.

Pam is one of the hot glue gun processes.http://www.pamhotmelt.com/
I have used Kool Glide glue sticks. They work good but the glue dries so fast, you have to cut strip into 1' pieces.
