I am installing bamboo floor for the first time. I've been doing my research and some sites say that you have to leave the boards in the room of choice to acclimate them to the room. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
though, if it is 70deg outside (where the flooring has been for a while) and 70 deg inside, not so much of an issue. its wide temp differences that you need to be concerned about.
It doesn't really need the be the exact room you are putting it in unless that room is drastically different than other parts of the house. For example, you could store it in a bedroom and put it in the living room if you want, but I wouldn't store it in an unfinished basement where heat and moisture could be different than the intended install location.
You will most definitely want to acclimate the bamboo to your room before installing. The reason you need to acclimate is because wood is a natural product and will expand and contract depending on humidity. If you install it when it contains more moisture it will eventually shrink leaving gaps. The time needed to acclimate is not set in stone, however, we recommend 1 week to be safe. If you invest into a moisture meter the rule of thumb is to make sure the moisture content of the wood is no more than 4% difference from the plywood.
I stacked mine out of the boxes in the kitchen against the wall I was working towards. Helped me install floor as well. I have pictures in my project showcase.
