Hi everyone, brand-new member here. My name is JD.
My wife and I have just purchased a condo here in Seattle in a 44-unit building that was erected in 1987. We're on the second floor.
While doing my first real "peek and poke", I pulled back a corner of the carpet in a main area and was confronted with what looks to me like self-leveling compound. Sure enough, after digging out a chunk, there's about an inch of the stuff over plywood.
I pulled up a corner in another area and started peeling the vinyl and scraping the paper from one of the bathroom floors and it seems to have been put down throughout the unit.
We want to tile the bathrooms and add heating mats and we must mitigate impact noise as well. We are also planning new carpet throughout and we're considering noise abatement in the main area, too.
My questions are, I guess, is laying an inch of SLC normal? And, will its presence impact our flooring plans?
