Im installing 18 by 18 travertine tile for an hearth need some help

I am installing traverine tile that are 18 by 18 for a hearth thats gonna have a bio burning inset. (it burns wood pellets along with anything organic). So everything is being framed in metal then it has the cement board (has to be a non combustable material by code). So here I am with Travertine a tile Iv never used before. I know the thinset is put down then the tile, and it will have a very thin line in between with grout for totally sealing it. But one thing that bothers me is I have a about 2 inch trim piece around it. I know to install but does it have to have a space thats definet between the tile and the trim or what?? Not too sure if I can get a away with having a thin line there or not. Any help would be great!

A picture would clear this up-----typically the trim is applied after the tile---with the trim notched (rabbited) to cover the edge of the tile-----some space must be allowed for swelling and movement of the tile and wood----Mike---
