We did 2 of the neighbors houses this way and it really gives a different look to a tiles floor.
Put your tile down turned 45 degrees from normal. When you walk into the room and aren't looking straight down the grout lines it is a totally different look.
All of the main runs are the same as laying tile the normal way.
So how do you make your cuts?
Just use a quick square on you tile saw. You use he quick square and it holds the tile at a perfect 45 degree angle and you cut the corners off instead of a full side. It's the same amount of work a lying the tile the normal way, but people think you must have killed yourself doing it.
We've only done it to big areas of floor. So I not sure how it would look in a smaller area like a bathroom, but the effect of the tile being on the bias is such an “eye grabber” for people I'm going to try it on the next bathroom I do.
