How to varnish/stain pine floorboards

hi,

i've just finished sanding my floorboards....I now need advice on the best way to varnish/stain them with a walnut finish.

the floorboards are pine, not in a great condition...what kind of finish should i go for e.g rock/diamond hard...

any advice you can supply little old me would be very gratefully received.

love

raquel

First you need to put your stain on then top coat it with a clear, make sure you ask for compatability with your local hardware guy/girl. I've always preferred the look of satin as a full gloss will show up all the marks. If you stick with a polyurethane top coat it will be more durable

it depends on the look you want as well poly is a good finish, but I love the look of the oil finish, but it is not as durable.
