I have removed the shoe molding from one room to add backer rod insulation. I now want to re-install the same shoe molding. The problem is the long finishing nails in the existing molding-- they are nailed in below the surface of the quarter round, and can't easily be pulled out. Originally I assumed I could nail the whole unit back into the wall, but the nails are long (maybe 2") and easily bent. Any suggestions appreciated-- thanks.
pull the nails out through the back, be careful not to break your trim. You could try hammering it out from the back as well, but sometimes it splinters around the nail head. They make nail pullers, but you could just use pliers and keep pulling the nail.
