How Many Sq. Ft. Can You Install?

Out of curiosity, for those of you who install floors frequently, how many square feet of the following can you install in how much time? Roughly.

1. Laminate (click)
2. Hardwood (nail-down)

With a helper--laminate 250 feet in four hours

With a helper--unfinished oak---100 sq.ft. in an hour.

With a helper---prefinished oak--50 or 60 sf..per hour

Based on an open rectangular space---no stairs--simple door transitions

Nice, and without a helper?

If you don't mind, how much do you charge per square foot?

I never work on a square foot basis---that is a good way to go broke in a hurry.

An open room is quick---a hallway with 7 doors set on a 45* angle takes a long time---so where would square foot pricing fit into that picture?

The customer might be a neat house keeper and require hours of covering and prep and whole house dusting.

The second floor takes longer than the first floor---

Never could figure out square foot pricing---so I just charge by the job---based on all factors that I can think of.---Mike----

This thread reminded me of my brother---

Some times he has to change light bulbs---How much per bulb would you charge?

I can reach a light bulb on an 8 foot ceiling and change it in 36 seconds---

He changes light bulbs on radio towers---several hundred feet up---same bulb---a little higher cost .

Not all square feet are the same.

Oh, so your brother is one of those chickens.

LOL, you couldn't pay me enough to change bulbs on towers.

The real high towers can take a full day to change one bulb, as the elevator will only go up the first thousand foot, the next 600 plus foot is climbed by hand.

He may be to old for that work now---He did tell me about the time a fellow froze up with fear at about 80 feet----took two men to get him back down to the ground.

I'd laugh at the guy that froze up at 80 foot, but I wouldn't make it 40 foot. So I can understand how he felt, and won't laugh about it.
