How to cut floor around post?

Is there a better way to install laminate around a post?

I could have used the piece I cut out but there was more space from my saw blade than I was happy with. Stupid post had to end up right in the middle of my board. I also could have made another cut a little straighter i suppose but it was my 4th attempt and I was getting pissy.
The other two posts in the basement ended up in a joint so I was much happier with them. Here's one

I would have cross-cut the flooring at the center of the post. Then cut a (well layed out) half-circle in each flooring piece. This would then allow for a single seam on either side of the post that could be closed tightly leaving only a hairline crack to caulk on both sides of the post. Not near as noticeable. A much better cut could have been made around all of the posts.

Next time--start the row at the post so that each board has a half round cut ---and a factory seam in the center of the post---Clear as mud--right?

Box out the pole into a column. What were you going to do with the poles?

Lol I never asked how to make it look better, I was asking if there was a better way for next time, hopefully there won't be a next time though
