high joist under ceramic

I 'm installing a 12x12 ceramic floor. One inaccessable joist forced subfloor and underlayment up approximately 1/2". I was able to remove 1/4" with thinset and backer board. Can I use a leveling cement like ardex over the backer board to eliminate the other 1/4?
